David Castro is the President and Chief Executive Officer of I-LEAD, an accredited school for community-leadership development. His career began as a litigator at a major Philadelphia law firm, and in 1990, based on his pro bono work with several communities, he joined the Philadelphia District Attorney's office, where he co-created and served as chief of the Public Nuisance Task Force to fight drug crime throughout Philadelphia. He also wrote and lobbied for the landmark Pennsylvania Drug Nuisance Law. During his tenure as a prosecutor, David was elected president of the 5000-member Young Lawyer’s Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association, where he coordinated the implementation of more than 50 volunteer programs, and wrote a monthly column for the Philadelphia Bar Reporter on a variety of legal and cultural issues. Through his career in public service, David has served as the founding Executive Director of Pennsylvania Weed and Seed, and Executive Director of the Center for the Community Interest, for which he appeared on national television and spoke to audiences of lawyers and community leaders across the country. He also joined the administration of Pennsylvania Governor Ridge to create and lead a statewide crime-fighting and community-development initiative. He has been awarded Kellogg, Eisenhower and Ashoka Fellowships in recognition of his innovative leadership and public service. David is a graduate of Haverford College and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he served as an editor of the Law Review. In addition to his work with I-LEAD, he is currently developing his career as a novelist and nonfiction writer.
